Covid Collateral’s premiere in Washington, D.C. at the Cato Institute

View Project

The screening of Covid Collateral in Washington on July 23, 2024 at the Cato Institute was a great success, with Dr. Robert Redfield (White House Coronavirus Task Force, former Director of the CDC) among those on the panel.    Dr. Redfield’s revelations during the discussion were stunning: that he had argued against vaccine mandates; that he did not participate in the White House press conference announcing lockdowns because he was against them; and that he believed as early as January 2020 that the COVID-19 virus was genetically modified in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and escaped in a lab leak.

"Plastic People" to Have World Premiere at SXSW, Documentary Spotlight Section

View Project

Toronto, ON - January 10, 2024 - Plastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics, the feature documentary directed by Ben Addelman, is set to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in the Spotlight Section on the opening weekend, March 8-10, 2024. The film's world premiere will shed light on humanity's intricate relationship with plastic and the alarming effects of microplastics on human health.

The groundbreaking investigative documentary delves into our societal addiction to plastic, uncovering the escalating threat posed by microplastics to the human body. Tracing the journey of microscopic plastic particles from their omnipresence in the environment to their recent discovery within human bodies—organs, blood, brain tissue, and even within the placentas of new mothers—the film raises critical questions about the repercussions of these unseen intruders on our health.

Ziya Tong, co-director and acclaimed author and science journalist, spearheads this investigative journey. In a deeply personal quest for answers, Tong travels the world visiting leading scientists and experts searching for solutions, while at the same time participating in experiments conducted in her home, on her food, and in her body—all captured for the first time on camera. Some of the prominent global experts featured include: Dr. Pete Myers, Chief Scientist, Environmental Health Sciences, Virginia, U.S.A.; Dr. Jeanette Rotchell, Environmental Toxicologist, University of Hull, U.K.; and Dr. Sedat Gündoğdu, Microplastic Research Group, Cukurova University, Turkey,

An award-winning director of documentaries (Discordia, Nollywood Babylon, Bombay Calling, Kivalina vs Exxon) and TV series (Becoming You, Payday, Limitless), Ben Addelman remarked “Plastic People is an urgent wake-up call, unraveling the hidden crisis of our plastic-filled world and revealing how we got into this situation in the first place. The film will engage audiences in a crucial conversation about our health, our future, and the price we pay for our plastic addiction."

The SXSW world premiere screening at the Film & TV Festival will be accompanied by a separate 1-hour panel discussion in the SXSW Conference providing an in-depth exploration of the documentary's themes. Eight members of the production team will attend the world premiere, supported in part by Telefilm Canada. Plans for a Canadian theatrical release are set to occur in May, supported by a significant impact campaign managed by Good Measure Productions. The film will be screened on TELUS Communications’ streaming platforms Spring of 2024.

“Plastic People” arrives at a crucial moment for the global debate on how to solve the plastic pollution issue. The United Nations is currently convening negotiations on a new global Plastics Treaty that is widely viewed as the most consequential environmental agreement since the Paris climate change accord.

The Phage Hunters: How a "Good Virus" can Save Your Life

View Project

A global health emergency is upon us. By 2050, it is estimated that 10 million people world-wide, will die from superbug infections — dwarfing cancer. Unless urgent action is taken, multidrug resistant bacteria will decimate us. The situation is so desperate that both the FDA and Health Canada are allowing the use of the old Soviet cure - Phage Therapy for compassionate use.

Dr.  Anthony Fauci recently announced funding for this revolutionary treatment:
“NIAID is supporting research to determine if phage therapy might be used in treating evolving antibiotic-resistant bacterial diseases.”

We have been granted access deep into the heart of the hidden world of phage therapy:
A crack team of Phage Hunters use the new killer phage therapy to save human lives and begin a new age of medicine.

The Divided Brain Honored by Oxford and Cambridge Universities

View Project

On Friday 23 July 2021 the Universities of Cambridge, Northampton and Oxford (for the first time in over 800 years) co-hosted a public debate.

This global event explored how the 'rational' brain got us into the current social, educational and economic challenges and how the 'intuitive' brain, communities, conversations and collaboration can get us out.

According to psychiatrist Iain McGilchrist we have allowed the rational part of our brain to dominate our decision making over recent generations which has contributed greatly to the current existential crisis facing humanity.

The intuitive, social and empathic brain has been ignored for too long. He argues that we have become brain damaged and need a period or reflection and recovery.

We are now preparing for four further dialogues shaped by Iain's latest book 'The Matter With Things'. Read more at the link below.

Press Release: The Divided Brain premiers Sept. 22 on documentary Channel

View Project

On the heels of its triumphant screenings in London, Washington and Toronto,

The Divided Brain

The film one half of your brain doesn’t want you to see

Premieres Sunday September 22, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT on documentary Channel

THE DIVIDED BRAIN is a filmic quest to discover if our society has been hijacked by the left hemisphere of our brains, and what can be done to restore balance. The film makes its broadcast premiere on Sunday September 22, 2019, at 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT on documentary Channel.

This subversive theory is the brainchild of Dr. Iain McGilchrist, a neuroscientist and psychiatrist who argues that over centuries, the values of the left hemisphere have slowly been gaining influence in society – especially since the industrial age.

McGilchrist’s revolutionary concept is surrounded by great controversy, earning him comparisons to Freud and Darwin. Some scientists and prominent thinkers believe he is on to something, others are loudly opposed to his theory.

THE DIVIDED BRAIN follows McGilchrist on a journey to meet his biggest champions and critics the world over, testing his big and controversial ideas against leading thinkers from England, the U.S., Switzerland, Scotland, Germany, and Canada.

Actor and comedian, John Cleese, makes a special appearance in the film, and has called McGilchrist’s book on the topic, The Master and the Emissary, “probably the most interesting, most important book I've ever read.”

Inspired by brain studies of stroke patients who have lost function in one of their hemispheres, McGilchrist argues that the left and right hemispheres of our brains have radically different world views. Unlike the old pop-psychology beliefs of what the right and left hemisphere do, we now understand that they are both involved in most functions. However, the way they perceive reality is very different.

The left hemisphere likes rules, procedures, technology, and systems. On the positive side, the left has given us science, literacy, and technology. But it cannot solve logical problems, feel empathy for others or connect with nature. It does not understand context. For the left hemisphere, the world is made of separate parts; it can`t make connections. Details are important, not relationships.

However, the right half of our brain thinks in holistic terms; it has intuition, judgement and
interpretive skills. It excels in seeing the big picture, reading faces and non-verbal cues. It understands
context. It’s the world of the imagination. The right is concerned with living things, while the left
prefers the mechanical.

A healthy brain relies on both halves. When they work in balance, individuals and cultures thrive.
While society searches for solutions, McGilchrist argues that the real problem is inside our heads.

The Times reviews Leslie Caron: The Reluctant Star

View Project

What’s on TV tonight: Friday August 23, 2019

Viewing guide, by Gabriel Tate

Leslie Caron: The Reluctant Star
PBS America, 9pm

Charlton Heston ended up in The Colbys. Rock Hudson did Dynasty. There’s a litany of once-glittering Hollywood names who consented to doing any old nonsense on the small screen to earn a crust, but Leslie Caron has arguably had the most unusual trajectory of all the greats.

After sensational early appearances in An American in Paris, Lili (for which she became the second French woman to receive a best leading actress nomination) and Gigi came a left turn into New Wave kitchen-sink drama with The L-Shaped Room, ropey films and television, and finally a small-screen resurgence with an Emmy win for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.  There was also a memorable guest run on The Durrells, which sounds incongruous until one realises that it was produced by her son Christopher, born during a marriage to Peter Hall that was marked by his old-fashioned attitudes towards the role of a wife.

This classy documentary from the French arts channel Arte benefits enormously from Caron’s articulacy and honesty about an eventful life and career, the latter triggered by a lucky break, but sustained thanks to her talent and perseverance. From dancing with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire to a public fling with Warren Beatty in his peacocking, possessive pomp, through to substance abuse and alcoholism and relative later-life contentment in London, she is one of the last living witnesses to the end of Hollywood’s golden age and surely its most enlightening. Candid but never catty, self-analytical without being solipsistic, Caron is a dream subject for a superior profile. What’s on TV tonight: Friday August 23, 2019

The Divided Brain premiere screening in London

View Project

We had a successful premiere screening in London, sponsored by the global advertising agency, Ogilvy UK. Some audience reactions:

I thought the film terrific, as clearly did the packed audience. You managed to keep our interest rapt in a complex, abstract thought, which is a tremendous achievement for a documentary of that length. Bouquets to you and all your team.
    - Nicholas Shakespeare, British novelist and biographer, Six Minutes in May: how Churchill unexpectedly became Prime Minister

The Divided Brain is a very powerful documentary that has not shied from including critical voices.  It conveys, with great clarity and conviction, the immeasurable dangers of the colonisation of the brain by the left-brain hemisphere.
     - Sunil Kumar, PhD, former dean, London School of Economics and Political Science.

A fascinating documentary which filled me with admiration for the amazingly rich and amusingly imaginative human brain. It seems we are not in a blessed moment in history where the importance of each side of the brain balanced the other. I believe in the world’s desire for survival; hopefully the world will make the right choices.
